Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning

Roydon school is situated in the village of Roydon which is on the outskirts of Harlow in Essex. We are a community of approximately 200 children and 25 staff who work and learn together in our beautiful school and grounds.

Our site consists of the old Victorian listed building (1876) and later additional buildings which have been added as the school population increased. We have our own open air swimming pool, an amphitheatre, an adventure playground and extensive playing fields. Our children enjoy learning and we believe that learning should be memorable and fun. We encourage a healthy lifestyle and enjoy Healthy School and Active mark status.

Our school is at the heart of village life and the children are involved in activities in the village, They have helped in tending the community orchards, in planting hedges with the Country care group and regularly visit the village church for Harvest and Christmas. The village community makes use of the school grounds for ballet, karate and archery classes and the Friends of Roydon School Association (FORSA) is very active and supports the work of the school with many enjoyable activities and fundraisers.

The children achieve well in national tests as well as developing as well rounded learners who take on responsibility and care for others.

In our latest Ofsted report in March 2009, inspectors commented:

"
The school motto, ‘Thinking, Learning and Caring’ underpins all the school’s work and is one of the reasons why pupils’ personal development is outstanding... The curriculum is rich and varied and makes an excellent contribution to pupils’ enjoyment. Care, guidance and welfare are exemplary and parents and pupils regard this as an exceptional feature of the school."

We are proud of our children and value the achievements of every one. Welcome to our website. We hope you enjoy learning more about us.

Our talented artists
Talented artists from Years 5 & 6 were chosen for an art workshop with Miss Stick. We were inspired by Picasso's cubist paintings.
Our victorious swimming team!

Congratulations to the Roydon Swimming Team for their phenomonal success in winning not one but two Galas in the same afternoon! With guts, determination and fuelled by adrenaline they proved that they were true champions on the day. They have all dedicated themselves to the training sessions on Friday evenings, they have raced against one another, grown fitter and raised their game. They proved to be a united, bonded team, supporting and encouraging each swimmer, they were good sports and were polite to their competitors. Well done to  Amy, Charlotte, Mia, Chloe, Christie, Lauren, Katie, Olivia, George Meynell, George Moss, Tony, Lewis, Jake, Alex O, and Andrew.  Read the full report here ...
